- This Buddha head is Lanna Art, Phayao style during late 21st B.E. to early 22nd B.E. It was made from sandstone. The face is heart shaped with wide forehead, pointed chin, arched brows joined above the nose and its end tip touched the lateral canthus. The eyes are lotus –petal shaped, glancing downward. The nose is narrow but high, mouth is thin and slightly open with upward corners. The area between the nose and mouth was dented which imitated real human face. The statue does not have hairline, the hair is tufted lining nicely and arched down at the middle of the forehead, ushnisha is cylindrical shaped. Phayao style Buddha statue was influenced from Sukhothai Art in Kamphaeng Phet category. This category has its characteristic of wide forehead, pointed chin, arched brows and joined above the nose pointing downward. Phayao Buddha statue was commonly made with sandstone. Phayao could get the influence from Sukhothai Art dated back to the time when Phaya Yudhishthira was appointed by King Borommarachathira of Ayutthaya Kingdom to rule Phitsanulok. Later, he allied with King Tilokaraj of Lanna Kingdom and attacked Sukhothai and Kamphaeng Phet in 1994 B.E. Then he was appointed as a ruler of Phayao by King Tilokaraj.
