- Standing Buddha image in Vitarka Mudra (preaching posture) performs preaching by bending the thumb and the forefinger together, similar to the Wheel of Dhamma. The image has a quite round face, eyes casting downwards, a big and pointed nose and a smiling knowing mouth. There is a fire halo at the back of his head, and he wears the ropes covering his body. This Buddha image illustrates the influence of Indian arts during and after Gupta which is a kind of arts in Buddhism, so Mahayana Buddhism has played an important role in Dvaravati and other contemporary arts in the Southeast Asia. Vitarka Mudra is referred to as preaching posture which the thumb and the forefinger together are bent together, similar to the Wheel of Dhamma. It shows the turning of the Wheel of Dhamma teaching, and this posture is developed from Chakra Mudra of Indian arts.
