Rua Mat is a lumber dug out boat without gunnel, its front is flat and wide. This kind of boat has a variety of size. A big boat is usually used to load paddy rice, firewood and rocks, and a rower is required in moving. A small one is usually used to carry lighter objects and in fishery. Another kind of small boat is thinner, especially the one used in boat race. Normally, a small boat require a punt or paddle in moving along swamps or shallow water ways. Iron or teak timbers are dug out to make Rua Mat, and this kind of boat is an ancient form of boat in the central part of Thailand. Nowadays, Rua Mat is still found in many places.
