History

Inburi National Museum is located inside a temple called Wat Bot (Pra ar ram luang) Tambol Inburi, Inburi city, Singburi province. Since 1938, the museum was established by the former high ranking abbot of the temple, Prateapsuthimolee (Pueng Rojano), who was also the primate abbot of Singburi – Uthaithani (Thammayut). He collected old artifacts from the donation of people and presented for public knowledge by the name of "Wat Bot National Museum”. Later, several antiquities were managed according to academic principle, and were transferred to be preserved under Fine Arts Department. The museum was approved to change the name to" Inburi National Museum".

After 1940 when Prateapsuthimolee collected the several antiquities and the museum was operated by the committee and by Prateapsuthimolee as the head of the committee; in 1953, the museum was established as a national museum of Inburi district

Later in 1961, the museum committee considered that the old wooden building was not enough to store more and more antiquities. It was hence donated money to build a new building from Mrs. Peom Duriyangkul, and named this building as Peom Duriyangkul building. An old hall of the temple which is Salaak Burin was also renovated to be another exhibition building.

Later in 1971, when the former Abbot of Wat Bot was at the position of Prarachameathapon, Primate of Singburi abbot. He supported the Fine Arts Department to improve the exhibition to be proper according to academic principle. And later in 1973, Inburi National Museum Branch, Sing Buri, was changed to Inburi National Museum.

History of Inburi

Inburi is a district in Sing Buri Province. Archaeological evidence found that the ancient community has lived since Dvaravati (12th - 16th Buddhist century). There are many antiquities found at archaeological sites in Ban Khumuang, Tambol Huaychan, InBuri district.

In the Ayutthaya period, King Ramathibodi 1 (Prajao U-thong) established Ayutthaya to be the capital, Singburi is a sub-capital city and Inburi and Phromburi were cities. These three cities were the inner and the front cities; and on the north side, Lop Buri is the main city.This shows that Singburi, Inburi and Phromburi were cities before the King Ramathibodi 1 established Ayutthaya. However, there is still no evidence of when these cities were settled.

Later, there was a new ruling format in HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The districts near the capital or the inner city was a suburb (Jattawa district). Districts outside the capital area were a smaller suburb (Ake, Tho and Three) according to the size and importance of the city. Inburi, Phromburi and Singburi were hence transformed into suburbs in which were previously inner cities.

In Rattanakosin era, provincial administration has been improved many times. In 1895, the reign of King Rama V arranged the administration to be district government. Singburi, Inburi and Phromburi were merged with an old city - Ayutthaya. Later in 2896, Inburi and Phromburi were transformed to be a sub-district of Singburi province.
