Chumphon National Museum is a museum founded by the Chumphon governor (Mr. Prayoon Prompan) around 1994. The land was donated to Fine Arts Department to establish a National Museum, the area of which was 7 Rais. Therefore, Fine Arts Department by the Director General (Mr. Somkit Chotikawanich) established the national museum according to the establishment project plan by the cabinet, the purpose of which was to have a national museum in certain regions throughout the country in order to expand educational opportunities for local people to learn about history, archeology, art and culture as well as local wisdom. |
The construction of Chumphon National Museum as well as preparation of exhibition materials and installation of utilities was carried out during the fiscal years of 1995 – 1997. The total budget was 54,596,000 baht. |
Chumphon National Museum declared the establishment as the national museum in the Royal Gazette, Volume 115, Section 104 D, dated 29 December 1998, and it was officially opened, which HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening ceremony, on 30 April 1999.

In terms of architectural, Chumphon National Museum is a two-story building with the combination of local Southern architecture and contemporary architecture, making it outstanding and modern. The museum features a permanent exhibition room, library, meeting room, multi-purpose room, office, antiquity and artifact storeroom, and book and souvenir shop. |
