Antique closet
|
The first section
|
|
exhibits the history of King Bhumibol Adulyadej with Ban Chiang. This section tells a story of His Majesty’s visit in 1972 which also brought collaboration with other organizations in studying and improving Ban Chiang Archeological Site and other sites in Thailand. The question raised by King Bhumibol during his visit was exhibited in this section in order to introduce a primary step of archeological study.

The second section
|
|
exhibits archeological operations in Ban Chiang which are presented in a chronological order. It emphasizes on significant events, including important personnel both Thais and foreigners.

The third section
|
|
exhibits archeological operations in Ban Chiang and working and studying processes of excavation by archeologists during 1974-1975 such as processes for classifying and analyzing antiquities from the excavation including videos of the interview with local villagers.

The fourth section
|
|
displays the excavation site, scene and simulated atmosphere of the excavation during 1974-1975. Visitors can closely visit and observe the working processes in the simulated excavation site.

The fifth section
|
|
exhibits antiquities from the excavation at Pho Sri Temple. The antiquities found at this temple, namely earthenware, tools and equipment and accessories from natural materials such as glass, stone and metal, are exhibited in this section and classified according to the 3 Ban Chiang ages

The sixth section
|
|
displays Ban Chiang cultures in the pre-historic age. There are simulated scenes and antiquities concerning lifestyles of the people in the pre-historic age with simulated atmosphere and environment.

The seventh section
|
|
contains exhibitions of disappearing objects found in the Bronze Age. These exhibitions have been adapted from those at University of Pennsylvania in the United States of America and in Singapore. This section contains brief descriptions about archeological studies in the South East Asia, as well as findings about cultures in the Bronze Age in Ban Chiang Site.

The eighth section
|
|
"Ban Chiang: World Heritage" is organized to honor Ban Chiang Archeological Site which was recognized as the cultural world heritage site in 1992 according to Clause 3 of the Consideration Criteria "to ensure cultural evidence or civilization, which either is existing or has disappeared".

The ninth section
|
|
exhibits the spread of Ban Chiang culture. The antiquities found during the pre-historic archeological surveys at the sites near Ban Chiang Site in 1972 are displayed in order to provide knowledge about the spread of Ban Chiang culture in Sakon Nakhon area. At present, it has been found that there are 127 archeological sites which were influenced by Ban Chiang culture, and they dispersed along important river basin in Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon and NongKkhai.

Thai Puan Exhibition Building

Thai Puan Anusorn House originally belonged to Khun Poj Montripitak who authorized Fine Arts Department to perform the excavation in 1972. After King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit’s visit, Khun Poj, the house owner, donated the house along with land to Fine Arts Department for conservation and as a memorial for the royal visit.

The excavation site is located in Pho Sri Temple which is approximately 500 meters away to the east from Ban Chiang National Museum. After the king’s visit on 20 March 1972, Fine Arts Department improved the excavation site at Pho Sri Temple to hold exhibitions as the first outdoor museum in Thailand. |
